This meeting will benefit apple packinghouse managers as well as vegetable farms of all sizes that are washing and packing their own produce. Topics will include a brief review of produce safety, in-depth review of cleaning, sanitizing and drying best practices, an introduction to hygienic design principles, and several hands on exercises to reinforce the workshop concepts.
This all day meeting will benefit apple packinghouse managers as well as vegetable farms of all sizes that are washing andacking their own produce. The Institute for Food Safety at Cornell University, the University of Vermont, CCE Cornell Vegetable Program, and CCE Lake Ontario Fruit Program are hosting a workshop on Cleaning, Sanitizing and Hygienic Design. This one-day workshop will include:
• A brief review of produce safety
• Presentations focused on cleaning, sanitizing and drying best practices
• An introduction to hygienic design principles
• Several hands-on exercises to reinforce cleaning, sanitizing and hygienic design concepts
Due to space a maximum of 2 people per farm/organization limit is in place.
Location: The workshop will take place at:Orleans County Fairgrounds, 12690 State Rte 31,Albion, NY 14411
Cost: The course is subsidized by several state and federal grants* and is being offered at a reduced cost of $25 per participant. We will provide lunch as well as several resources related to the topics reviewed during the workshop.

2nd Annual WNY Fruit Grower Tour

We are excited to announce the second annual Western New York Fruit Grower Tour, the premier fruit tour of the northeast brought to you by Cornell Cooperative Extension's Lake Ontario Fruit Program and Lake Ontario Ag Consulting, LLC! Located in Orleans County, this orchard field day will highlight new and existing products, chemistries, practices, technologies & equipment that shape the orchard industry today. The Western NY Fruit Grower Tour will again combine two past orchard tour events, the LOF Summer Fruit Tour and the Wayne County Fruit Grower Tour, giving industry members the opportunity to conveniently showcase their product offerings to ONE unified group at ONE time and place!
