FSMA/PSA Food Grower Training Course

A grower training course developed by the Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) that meets the regulatory requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule.  At least one person per farm producing more than $25,000 worth of fruits and vegetables must attend this course once.  Participants will receive a certificate of course completion from the Association of Food and Drug Officials.

All New York employers are required to have a sexual harassment prevention training policy in place since October 2018 and they are required to train all employees by October 9, 2019.

Cornell Cooperative Extension Educators are planning a series of meetings and webinars to help farm employers learn about the requirements and resources they can use to get into compliance.

We have prepared new, farm-friendly training materials for farm employers to use. These materials will meet the state's training requirements. Please join the meeting to learn more.

The 4th annual Young Fruit Grower Study Trip will be held in the Hudson Valley region of New York August 5th-7th.

The Young Fruit Growers of WNY, in partnership with the LOF Program, have organized an excellent itinerary. Stops will include innovative grower orchards, farm markets, and packing houses in the Hudson Valley. Participants will learn about grafting, hail netting, balancing new varieties, handling a transition, and more.

The study tour is focused on helping next generation growers develop the knowledge and skills needed to take their family farms into the future.

Dr. Margaret McGrath and ENYCHP Vegetable production Specialist Teresa Rusinek will lead a one-hour workshop for growers to discuss and learn how to integrate techniques in managing tomato diseases.  The meeting is taking place in the field at Davenport Farms where a disease resistant tomato variety trial is hosted.  Growers will have an opportunity to tour the trial, taste fruit, and provide feedback for plant breeders.  1 DEC credit has been applied for. 

Biocontrol Trial and IPM Field Meeting

4-5 pm: Dr's Amara Dunn and Meg McGrath will discuss powdery mildew control using biocontrols and organic and conventional fungicides.  Crystal Stewart from the ENYCHP will provide a tour of the biocontrol trial and additional squash and pumpkin mini-variety trial.

5-6pm: Walk the farm fields with Dr's Dunn and McGrath and with CVP specialist Elizabeth Buck to talk about integrated strategies to control pests, diseases, and weeds on the vegetables farm.  Bring samples and questions!

New Weed Management Technology Survey

Want to move away from herbicide reliance? Are you using novel technologies to manage weeds? We want to know about it to inform our weed science research.
